Aluminium alloys containing up to 14% Silicon will solidify naturally into coarse, brittle plates of Silicon in a medium of Aluminium. The mechanical strength and ductility of such a casting will be poor and its use limited. Modification of AISi into a fine, fibrous microstructure brings a marked improvement in properties. Fast cooling will achieve the modified AISi structure, but the presence of Strontium produces a similar effect that exists for several hours under normal foundry conditions. Strontium additions are typically introduced in the form of an aluminium based Master Alloy during melt preparation. Titanium to 10% Strontium to 10% Zirconium to 10% Vanadium to 10%

Ferro Aluminium is a ferro alloy comprising of Iron and Aluminium in a ratio of approximately 35% to 65%. It is used as a deoxidising agent in special steels. When a low melting point is required, more ferro aluminium is added. Avon Metals produces a metal-based cast product which has been approved at major steel plants throughout the world. Nickel-base superalloys are used extensively in the aerospace jet engines, land-based Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT), petrochemcial, chemical, medical and nuclear power industries due to their resistance to high temperature, creep and corrosion. The latest generation of equiaxal, single crystal (SC) and directionally solidfied (DS) superalloys incoroprate exotic metals such as Tantalum, Niobium, Hafnium and Rhenium which allow them to run at even higher temperatures.
